Over the past 50 years, the S&P 500 has posted an average gain of about 1.3%. This trend is attributed to various factors, including holiday optimism, year-end tax considerations, and the influx of holiday bonuses.
Some years have seen strong performances, such as in 2018, when the S&P 500 surged by 6.6%. However, there have been weaker years influenced by economic downturns or significant market events, like in 2000 when the dot-com bubble burst.
While not guaranteed, the Santa Claus Rally remains a fascinating and often profitable occurrence in the stock market. And this year, 2024 is no different. S&P 500 indices have increased by 1.1%, Nasdaq increased by 1.4%, and Dow Jones increased by 0.9%, showing a positive outlook for investors.
